Talking to Strangers...in a good way!

It never ceases to amaze me how people will share information with total strangers that their best friends may not even know about...

Besides the usual travel stories, (stuck on the airplane/bus for hours so you might as well make conversation, etc), I think women tend to take this habit to the next level. I myself am guilty as recently as 2 days ago when I stopped for a cup of coffee to keep me awake on my cross-state drive back home.  At this nondescript gas station pretty much in the middle of nowhere, I ended up in a conversation about menopause and the pros and cons of HRT with a very nice gal just a little older than myself who had joined me at the coffee station. This happened all because she commented about her eyesight having gone downhill when she reached 40. I lamented the same problem but since my hysterectomy and I swear the room got brighter when her brain clicked that it was right after her cool female surgery that she started having problems.

Inside of  five minutes, we had exchanged what types of supplements we had tried, what worked, what didn't, the bitch of having hot flashes - you name it, we covered it and then grabbed our cups of coffee and went on our merry way! How does this happen? All's it takes is a single link... one connecting factor and BOOM! We're off and running :)

I'd love to hear about the interesting conversation that you've had with a stranger. Maybe it was ended up being a networking connection? a love connection? Talk to me - Pretend I'm a stranger (or at least stranger than you :)

  1. I could talk to anyone except maybe my ex. I just love to talk and women are so good at trying to help one another. We rock!

  4. My mother was this way....she could start a conversation with anyone, and she DID on a regular basis!lol
The first time she visited me after a new grocery store had opened down the block, I took her in to shop. By the time we left, she knew the names and lives of half the people working there that day! The next time I went in there without her, the were all asking me why she wasn't with me.lolol

I was never like that however....until a few years ago. I think it is an age thing, besides being a female thing. I am at that age where I don't give a shit what anyone thinks of me usually so I just say whatever I think. I also often have strangers come up to me in stores and mistake me for an employee....they ask me where stuff is, etc. And then there is that woman who is always in Kmart when I go in, and she thinks I am her buddy and is forever approaching me and launching into conversations. Now THAT is a little unsettling as I get the vibe that she is one hound shy of a pack. ;-)
